Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra (DDSO)
The Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra is an intermediate level orchestra for talented young musicians from schools and music centres across the city & county, acting as a stepping stone to the City & County Youth Orchestra.
The orchestra usually meets twice a year for residential courses in February and July. The orchestra prepares music in rehearsals with accomplished instrumentalists tutoring for the duration of the courses. There is also time for recreation and socialising with like-minded musicians from across the city and county.
Each course culminates in a high-profile performance at venues across Derbyshire. Many the players in DDSO progress to being a member of the City & County Youth Orchestra (CCYO)
In recent years the orchestra has been directed by Natalia Luis-Bassa and Veronica Urrego with recent performances including Conga Del Fuego (Marquez), Symphony no.8, first movement (Dvorak) and Vltava from Ma Vlast (Smetana). The orchestra also regularly works on creative projects with Sinfonia Viva.
