Wirksworth Music Centre

We are a thriving music centre aimed mainly at school age pupils. Although based at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth we draw music-makers from Matlock, Ashbourne and the wider White Peak area.

We usually run one or two concerts per term; these tend to be either in Wirksworth or in Matlock. We meet to practise every Saturday morning from 0900 to noon in term time and we have a wide range of groups to suit different ages, levels and instruments - we also have brilliant teachers/group leaders! We have an active Parent Support Group as well as enthusiastic and committed Trustees.

You can find more detail on our website (see above) but our main groups are recorders (four groups "Early Days", Junior, Intermediate and Senior), strings (four groups) and wind (three separate bands). We also have a "Kodaly Kids" group which is about music and movement for 4-8 year olds and based on a fun approach to music. Some groups, especially the senior ones, feature adult players as well as young persons. All are welcome to join the group that suits them.

Subscriptions are £27.50 per person per term and any student can take part in as many groups as they choose. We encourage parents who are tax payers to have their subscription treated as a donation so that we can recover Gift Aid from HM Revenue and Customs. We understand that learning music can be an expensive commitment and we are keen to ensure that financial circumstances never prevent anyone who wishes to from taking part. If you'd like to sample a session on a no-obligation basis, do come along on any Saturday in term - we'd love to see you.
