City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB)

Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band is a very high-achieving ensemble conducted by Mark Heron. Players meet on various dates throughout the year for morning rehearsals (mainly at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick) and for residential courses at Lea Green (near Matlock) and Whitemoor Lakes (South Derbyshire), performing in several concerts per year.

Membership is by audition with a minimum standard of grade 6, many of the players being post-grade 8, and the band currently has around 70 members who ages range from 13 - 21.

Over the years, the band has achieved considerable success, winning both national and international awards.  They undertake a varied programme of concerts annually, including performances in high profile locations such as The Assembly Rooms, Derby. Recently, the Wind Band went on tour to Toyota City in Japan.

Becoming a member of the City & County Youth Wind Band

Entrance into the City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB) is done by audition, where applicants are expected to be of at least grade 6. Competition for places is quite high, and we expect many players who are given a place in this ensemble to be up to, and beyond grade 8 standard.
