Many of the players in DDSO will go on to audition and gain a place in the City & County Youth Orchestra.

In recent years the orchestra has been directed by accomplished conductors Natalia Luis-Bassa, Veronica Urrego and Caroline Hobbs-Smith The Orchestra has recently performed works such as Copland− Buckaroo Holidayfrom Rodeo, Beethoven− Symphony no.5, final movement and Suppe − Fatinitza March. Becoming a member of the Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra

Entrance into the Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra (DDSO) is done by application, where applicants are expected to be of at least grade 4 standard for strings, and at least grade 6 standard for the wind and brass places, which are limited in number due to the balance of an orchestra. We welcome all applications and carefully review which will be successful depending on the orchestration of the repertoire for each course. Very occasionally we need to audition wind or brass players if we are oversubscribed, to enable us to select the most appropriate players.

Next application deadline: Sunday 25 November 2018
