Auditions for woodwind, brass and percussion players (for CCYWB)

Apply for an audition to be a member of the City & County Youth Wind Band

We audition woodwind and brass players to become members of the City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB) throughout the academic year with successful players starting with the band at the following residential course or rehearsal.

Applications will be accepted up to two days before the audition date, but places will be confirmed on a first come first served basis. Percussion players may be invited to attend a rehearsal-audition at a different time. Our next auditions for the City & County Youth Wind Band will be − 

  • Wednesday 14 November, from 6pm 
    At the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, DE55 1AU 

Before you apply…

Please read the following advice before submitting your application for an audition.

  • Ability level − Applicants should be at least grade 6 ability on their instrument, however depending on competition for places, an ability of up to grade 8 may be needed.
  • Availability − Applicants are expected to have good availability for the majority of the commitments of CCYWB after the audition date.
  • Apply for CCYO − In the application below you can tell us if you would also like to be considered for the City & County Youth Orchestra (if on an applicable instrument).
  • Reference − We need you to provide us with the contact details of your instrumental teacher so if necessary we may seek confirmation of your readiness to audition.
  • Confirmation − If you are under 18, you will need a parent/guardian to confirm your application before it can be submitted.

Audition requirements

An audition for the City & County Youth Wind Band will include a short performance of a piece/study, a selection of scales and arpeggios, and the sight-reading of an extract of music.
