Auditions for wind, brass and percussion players

Apply for an audition to be a member of the City & County Youth Wind Band and/or the City & County Youth Orchestra

We normally audition wind and brass players to become members of the City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB) twice a year with successful players starting with the band at the following residential course.

For players wanting to become a member of the City & County Youth Orchestra (CCYO), we hold auditions only once a year in November.

Percussion players are invited to attend a rehearsal-audition at a different time.

Our next auditions will be:

  • Wednesday 19 July 2017, after 5.00pm | Application deadline 30 June 2017

Before you apply…

Please read the following advice before submitting your application for an audition.

  • Ensemble − Applicants can choose to audition for the City & County Youth Orchestra, the City & County Wind Band, or both.
  • Standard − Applicants should be at least grade 6 standard on their instrument, however depending on competition for places, a standard of up to grade 8 may be needed.
  • Availability − Applicants are expected to have good availability for the commitments of CCYO and/or CCYWB after the audition date.
  • Reference − We need you to provide us with the contact details of your instrumental teacher so we may seek confirmation of your readiness to audition.
  • Confirmation − If you are under 18, you will need a parent/guardian to confirm your application before it can be submitted.

We have already auditioned for 2016-2017 commitments but we are accepting applications for 2017-18 academic year, which will include…

  • Autumn Residential Course and Concert | Sunday 22 − Wednesday 25 October 2017 
    Venue and concert TBC

  • + Rehearsal mornings in January 2018 and a weekend residential in March 2018

Commitments for CCYO

We have already auditioned for 2016-17 commitments, but we are accepting applications for the 2017-18 academic year.

Percussion audition requirements for CCYO & CCYWB

Percussion players wishing to audition for the City & County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) and Wind Band (CCYWB) will be contacted by the Music Partnership to arrange a rehearsal-audition.

Please note: If you play a band-only instrument (eg. Baritone/Euphonium) you cannot apply for an audition for the Youth Orchestra.
Instrument and grades

If you wish to audition on more than one instrument, please submit a separate form. If you have not taken any Associated Board exams, we will need to contact your instrumental teacher for an approximate grade.

Youth Orchestra availability
