Flutastic is a day all about the Flute − you will rehearse and perform in a large Flute Choir and be inspired by internationally acclaimed flautist Katherine Bryan.

Katherine BryanKatherine is the Principal Flute with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and has appeared as concerto soloist with leading orchestras worldwide. Her latest album was chosen as one of Classic FM's top 20 albums of 2015. See more about Katherine…

Katherine will tutor an open masterclass during the day and perform an evening recital at the end of the day.

Timetable for the day

  • 10.30am − Arrival and registration
    11.00am − Warm up and massed flute choir rehearsal
    12.15pm − Lunch (not provided)
    1.15pm − Masterclass with Katherine Bryan
    3.15pm − Open workshop
    4.30pm − Flute Choir performance
    5.00pm − Tea break
    6.00pm − Katherine Bryan recital

  • Ability − Flutastic Day is open to all flute players of grade 3 and above
  • Masterclass − To be eligible for a masterclass, players must be grade 7 or above and priority will be given to players involved in the City & County Youth Wind Band, City & County Youth Orchestra and Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra
  • Attendance − Everyone who attends is expected to participate in the flute choir and stay the whole day (up to 5pm) and includes entry to the recital by Katherine Bryan at 6pm.
  • Cost − £15 student (in full-time education), £20 adult, and free for all teachers accredited with the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership
  • Recital − To attend the recital only, tickets are £6 and can be purchased on the door
  • Closing date − Sunday 8 January 2018
