We are delighted to be holding a Brass Masterclass where some of our senior students will have the opportunity to work with Elaine Close on their performance repertoire. The event is open to all NEDMC students, family and friends

Elaine Close began her performance studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now renamed Royal Scottish Conservatoire) under the careful and supportive guidance of Nigel Boddice (former principal Trumpet BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra) and John Gracie ( principal trumpet Royal Scottish National Orchestra).

Elaine was awarded the Governors Prize for Ensemble music during two successive years and numerous scholarships to travel to Europe for performances and postgraduate solo performance study at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. It was during her year in Rotterdam that Elaine was invited to trial for the BBC Philharmonic where she was offered a permanent position in 1996.

Elaine has worked with some of the UKs finest ensembles including BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Halle, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Royal Opera house, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

Throughout her performing career Elaine has actively pursued her interest in Education, working in the various outreach projects within the BBC Philharmonic, National Children's Orchestra, Derbyshire Music Service, Manchester University, Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department, Borders Regional council, Glasgow and Renfrew music services and Tayside Music services. The enjoyment of working with such diverse musical backgrounds and the challenges presented, inspired Elaine to move from the BBC Philharmonic in 2012 to her present educational position of Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Marines School of Music, Portsmouth.
