Children from 11 north-west primary schools who are learning instruments via the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership's Wider Opportunities programme will play alongside the Northern Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals, with a twist…

The Wider Opportunities pupils will perform with the orchestra in newly composed additional animal movements − Brass Monkeys (for brass), Whirling Wolves (for singing and body percussion), Adelie Penguins (for ukuleles) and Cool Cats (for clarinets). These new movements have been specially composed to fit within the other 14 movements of the Carnival of Animals, and showcase the skills of these young musicians.

Schools participating: St. Mary's (New Mills), All Saints (Glossop), Thornsett, St. Mary's (Glossop), Gamesley, Whaley Bridge, Hayfield, Hague Bar, Dinting, Simmondley and Padfield.
