Fleet Arts is a locally based, professional arts charity, which has worked across Derbyshire and in Derby City for over 25 years.
Fleet Arts work with local groups, schools and councils to develop and run new and exciting music or arts projects which encourage people to take part, whatever their experience.
We normally work with groups but also work with individuals who have come together as a group for the first time. We do not run regular events, but develop projects either at a group's local venues or at the Fleet Arts base in Belper. Workshops or projects can be chosen from a 'menu' or they can be tailored to whatever a group wants or needs. We also offer support to groups to help them apply for funding for projects or programmes.
For over 10 years an important part of what we do has been our music development project, called Turn It Up. This works mainly with young people to encourage them in music-making − either by trying something for the first time, or so they can improve or become more confident in their existing skills.
We offer a wide range of genres including beat-boxing or rapping, band performance skills, recording and lyric writing or composition. We have a range of experienced workshop leaders and assistants, many of whom work as musicians or in the wider music field as PA technicians or photographers. They also specialise in working with different ages or abilities, so when choosing who works with a group we take both their skills and experience into account.
In recent years we have run a number of rock school and concert projects with the Derbyshire Music Education Hub as well as a range of work with other organisations, including festivals and training projects. We are now extending our work to include folk and other music genres.
