High Peak Community Arts
High Peak Community Arts provides opportunities for people to participate in high quality creative arts projects, enhancing their quality of life through self expression.
High Peak Community Arts work in the market towns and villages of the High Peak − such as Glossop, New Mills and Buxton − and we focus on those who have least access to arts and culture. Our projects benefit some of the most hard to reach and isolated individuals and groups in the community; including those affected by disability, lack of resources or encouragement, rural isolation and other personal or social circumstances.
We provide first and onward opportunities for participants of all ages, interests and abilities, to experiment with the creative arts, including film, digital arts, crafts, music, performance and visual arts. We contract professional artists who are also experienced facilitators and most of our projects work collaboratively to create work that reflects and celebrates life.
Areas of activity
- Youth Arts enables young people to engage and participate in creative arts activities, from first experiences through to membership of project steering groups and work experience placements. We have been awarded the Silver level Hear By Right award by the National Youth Agency and we are an Arts Award Delivery Centre.
- Arts & Wellbeing programmes such as Project eARTh provide arts based initiatives for adults and elders to improve their health and well-being. Our projects are built around the people who take part, through steering groups, we engage participants in every stage of development, and tailor activities to meet their needs and interests.
- Communities Programme respond to real community needs and concerns within our local area through direct, locally provided project activity. The community based programme aims to work with local people and we work in partnership to support community development and inclusion.
With support from Derbyshire's Music Education Hub we will be providing two music based projects for young people in the High Peak:
The Music Arts Pod
Music Arts Pod is a combined arts programme, with an emphasis on music, for the alternative curriculum provision in the High Peak. Also funded by the National Foundation for Youth Music, this programme will work with pupils at the local Pupil Referral Unit and referred groups from two local high schools. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in music and other arts activities, to work at a regional venue and attend live events. Key participants will also be signed up onto a mentoring scheme to support their personal development. The activities will run across three settings from September 2015 to July 2016 and across two settings from September 2016 to July 2017.
Tall Tales Tall
Tales is our performing arts programme set on two of the most deprived estates in the High Peak. The main programme is funded largely by the Foundation for Youth Music, but support from the Music Education Hub allows us to broaden our recruitment to provide practical taster sessions in two primary schools, two youth clubs and two high schools. We will also hold a taster day for new and existing participants to meet a range of professional musicians and be able to influence the choice of skills being provided in the main programme.
