Sampad - South Asian Arts
Sampad South Asian Arts, performance and learning programmes for schools and communities since 1990.
Based in Birmingham, Sampad is a leading cultural organisation helping to establish South Asian arts within mainstream culture in Birmingham and across the U.K. Through production, promotion, performances, advocacy, education and outreach activity, using the diverse art forms originating from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Sampad nurtures and supports British Asian arts and communities.
The Sampad Education programme is a cross art form creative learning programme, that aims to involve children, young people and adults in high quality South Asian Arts. Sampad delivers bespoke projects, taster workshops, consultation exercises and teacher training to enable all ages to engage in South Asian music and dance.
We offer Dhol drumming, Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium, general percussion, Singing and Dancing as part of a varied programme of activities. This includes bringing together Eastern genres and Western flavours to spice up the creative learning menu. Some of our projects include:
- Early Years project Lori Lullabies includes music, singing, movement and storytelling
- Festival music & dance projects − Eid, Diwali and Vaisakhi
- Dhol drumming from the Punjab
- Tabla and percussion
All Sampad artists are highly trained and experienced In their art forms. We work very closely with our clients to ensure the needs of their programme and participants is fully met during delivery. Our programme is developed regularly to support the wider curriculum.
We can also include Arts Award provision upon request from schools and groups.
Our cultural enrichment provision for Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership has included Dhol Drumming for 2013/2014. During Autumn 2014 term we will involve pupils in workshops with The Bangalore Quartet, a dynamic young band of talented artists from India who will perform a special morning concert for the whole school as part of their Chakraphonics tour.
Spring 2015 will bring Tabla Tarang and percussion collaborations to Derby pupils to create, make and share music.
