The Derbyshire Music Hub has announced six Lead Schools for Music, starting in September 2024 – Firs Primary (Derby), Brimington Junior, Hope Valley College, St. Andrew's Academy (Derby), The Ecclesbourne School and Allestree Woodlands School.

We are excited to be working with our new Lead Schools for the 2024-25 academic year. They all went through a rigorous accreditation process and will each bring their own specialism and skills to offer support to our work with other schools.

During the academic year 2024-25, these schools will play a crucial role in shaping the framework for broader implementation in Derby and Derbyshire, inline with the expectations of the Department for Education's National Plan for Music Education.

Elevating music education

The Lead Schools for Music will undertake several key responsibilities:

  • Mentoring and Support: Provide mentoring to other schools through various communication channels, including email, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
  • CPD Events: Host at least one twilight Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event for schools within their area.
  • Planning Meetings: Attend online termly planning meetings with the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership.
  • Resource Sharing: Contribute to a repository of best practice music curriculum materials.
  • Conference Assistance: Secondary Lead Schools will assist in planning and delivering the Music Hub’s annual Secondary Music Teachers’ Conference.
  • Brand Display: Obtain and display the Derbyshire’s Lead School for Music logo according to brand guidelines across digital and print materials, including websites, promotional print, public documentation, and social media.

This collaborative effort underscores a commitment to elevating music education standards and fostering a robust network of schools dedicated to nurturing musical talent across Derby and Derbyshire. The pilot year will serve as a crucial period for refining the program and ensuring its successful implementation in the coming years.
