Audition requirements for CCYWB
Requirements for woodwind, brass and percussion players auditioning for the City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB)
Audition piece
You will be expected to perform one piece/study (or sections of) which present a mixture of periods, style, mood and tempo. The piece/study should demonstrate a mastery of the complete range of your instrument, clear and accurate articulation, a variety of dynamics and a high standard of musicianship.
The piece/study should not exceed a total playing time of 6 minutes. Please bring a photocopy of your music or the piano accompaniment for the use of the audition staff (returned to you after the audition). Please note pieces will be performed without piano accompaniment.
- Woodwind and brass − The pieces/studies should be of at least grade 6 standard
- Percussion − Percussionists will be contacted to arrange a rehearsal-audition
Sight reading
You will be expected to play a one or two extracts from recent CCYWB repertoire.
Scales and arpeggios
You will be expected to play a selection of scales and arpeggios selected from the lists below. Players will be expected to play all scales slurred, legato-tongued and staccato.
