Frequently asked questions and important infrmation about attending a Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra course

We're looking forward to seeing you at the February Course! We've listed everything we think you need to know before coming, but if you have any questions, scroll down to the bottom to see how to get in touch with us.

Important details

  • Where and when
    Sunday 16 – Tuesday 18 February 2025 at Mount St. Mary's College, College Road, Spinkhill.
  • How to get there and where to check in
    Enter the site via Station Road (open Google Maps) and follow the short one way system around to the car park. There will be signs pointing you in the direction of where to go from here to check in. Note: the site has other entrances which SatNavs may take you to if you search the address which don't lead to the car park.
  • When to arrive
    Please aim to arrive between 10.00am - 10.20am. Rehearsals will begin until 10.30am.
  • What to bring
    Your instrument, a music stand (labeled), a pencil for rehearsals, enough clothes for three days (including warm clothes in case it's cold), something to sleep in, toiletries, towel, concert clothes and any personal items or medications that are needed.
  • Concert clothes
    White shirt, black bow tie (optional for girls), black trousers and shoes.
  • Concert
    Tuesday 18 February 2025, 7.30pm at Derby Reach, Pride Park, Derby DE24 8HY (open in Google Maps). Door will open at 7.00pm.
  • Conert tickets
    You can buy tickets for £10 (+ booking fee) on Ticketsource. A limited number of tickets will be available on the door for £12 and can be bought only with cash.

Answers to common questions

  • Can parents stay and watch some of the course?
    Unfortunately, we cannot host parents at the course other than during check in.
  • Are there any refreshments outside of meals?
    There will be basic refreshments available to buy. Water and hot drinks will be provided.
  • Does anything need to be prepared in advance?
    Unless you are sent repertoire in advance specifically, participants do not need to prepare anything before attending. 
  • Can over 18s drink alcohol / smoke?
    Over 18s can drink alcohol, but this will be monitored by staff (over 18s will be contacted about this separately). Smoking is not allowed on site at all.  
  • Can my child bring a friend?
    Yes, but only if they apply for an audition first and are accepted. We will not be accepting new players in the week before the course starting.
  • Do I need to transport my child from Mount St. Mary's to the concert in Derby?
    No, coach transfer is provided to all participants from the course to the concert.
  • How do we get tickets to the concert?
    We will be in touch with a private link to buy tickets online nearer the time.
  • Do we need to sign out at the end of the conert?
    No, families can take their children straight after the concert

Payments

  • How do I make an online payment?
    Please do this using Derbyshire County Council's payment service. This link is in your confirmation email too. 
  • Can I pay on arrival?
    Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash or card payments when the course starts.
  • I think something has gone wrong with my payment, what do I do?
