Becoming a member of the City & County Ensembles

Submit your application to become a member of the Schools' Orchestra, Youth Orchestra or Youth Wind Band now…

If you enjoy playing as part of a large ensemble and want to perform with some of the most talented young musicians in Derbyshire, the City & County Ensembles are for you! 

We accept applications for the three ensembles all year round and, when necessary, run auditions at various points during term time. Find the ensemble you're interested in below and follow the links to our application pages.

Changes to our audition process

Whilst face-to-face auditions are not possible, we will arrange for the submission of video recordings in their place. Prospective players should make applications through our website, which details the requirements for video submissions, but we will contact you to make any further arrangements afterwards.


City & County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) and Wind Band (CCYWB)

For our flagship ensembles, applicants should have passed at least grade 6, however depending on competition for places, an ability of up to grade 8 may be needed.

Derby & Derbyshire Schools' Orchestra (DDSO)

The Schools' Orchestra is a stepping stone to our flagship orchestra, the City & County Youth Orchestra. Applicants should have passed at least grade 4, and we expect many players to be of grade 5 or 6 ability. Applicants for the limited number of wind places need are expected to be at least grade 6 ability.
