Musical Gems
A project for EYFS with 10 weekly lessons of 40 minutes, delivered by an early years music specialist
Musical Gems has been developed to support the prime and specific areas of learning as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
Influenced by the principles of the Kodaly, activities include rhymes, songs, movement, games and the use of whole-class sets of instruments. Children are introduced to age-appropriate songs with simple melodies and a limited range of notes and there are opportunities for solo singing.
When we told the children that you were coming again today, everyone cheered! They love the music sessions and sing your songs spontaneously.
Participating school
A typical project includes:
- Fun songs and activities
Activities that can be used at any point in the day to focus attention, re-energise and improve listening and concentration.
- Musicianship
Children are introduced to key musical concepts such as pulse, rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics and silence which are developed within and across sessions.
- Listening and attention
Auditory discrimination, memory and sequencing is developed by tuning into sounds and including a number of different percussion instruments.
- Communication and team work
Children are encouraged to work together, to make choices, state their preferences and recognise their own achievements.
- Spatial awareness, fine and gross motor skills
Movement helps develop the children’s co-ordination and sense of self in space, via action songs, rhythm work and beat-keeping activities.
How much does Musical Gems cost?
