Making the most of a nursery rhyme

Exploring how to use nursery rhymes to develop simple music-making activities for EYFS pupils

DDMP logoChildren naturally engage with nursery rhymes becuase of their rhythm, rhyme and repetition – elements that help the foundations of understanding patterns in language, mathematics and music.

  • New for 2024: This training will include new material from the 2023 event, and we welcome anyone who attended last year's event as well as new faces!

What is included in the training?

This training event is delivered by an music education Consultant and will include:

  • Exploration: Gain an understanding of why rhymes make ideal material for developing an understanding of patterns in language and music
  • Making music: Develop an understanding of the musical ingredients of a nursery rhyme and how to develop creative music-making activities from them, including composing your own
  • Performance material: Learn how to develop these activites into a musical performance with or without accessible instruments in a way that all pupils can join in and succeed
  • Diversity: Access examples of rhymes and songs from around the world

What resources are included?

Alongside access to the training, you will be provided with a resource pack which includes:

  • Activities – A collection of activities, including teaching notes and resources needed to deliver them in the classroom
