Music, Mills and Derbyshire Hills: Introducing creative music ideas around the topic of Derbyshire
Learn activities and lesson content covering all areas of the Model Music Curriculum around the topic of celebrating Derbyshire’s history | Thursday 27 March
Creating a music topic that covers all four areas of the Model Music Curriculum – singing, performing, composing and listening – can be a challenging task for the most experienced music specialist, and a daunting prospect for those without experience.
This training provides all teachers, with or without musical experience, with a deliverable topic that celebrates the history of our county and covers all the areas of the Model Music Curriculum.
What is included in the training?
This training event is delivered by an music education Consultant and will include:
- Singing: Learn The Best You Can Be – A Song for Derbyshire specially written by Daniel Whibley (CBeebies Musical Storyland composer), plus explore and sing traditional Derbyshire folk music.
- Listening: Understand the features of minimalist music and use them to create compositions. Follow graphic notation and gain a deeper understanding of both traditional and modern folk songs.
- Composing: Be guided through how to run a composing activity around making mill machine music and create a graphic score from the Derbyshire landscape using whatever sound-makers you have in your school.
- Performance: Get advice on how to showcase the pupils’ work in performances. Learn how to perform as an ensemble and play simple ukulele chords.
What resources are included?
Alongside access to the training, you will be provided with a resource pack of ideas from the session.
