Choirs for young musicians of all singing abilities, based in Derby
Derby Cathedral Choir is one of the East Midlands' premier professional ensembles, known for its high standards and diverse repertoire from medieval plainsong to contemporary works.
Featuring 20 Boy Choristers, 20 Girl Choristers, and 6 Lay Clerks, the Choir performs daily services, tours internationally, records CDs, and collaborates with renowned ensembles like the Heart of England Orchestra and Sinfonia Viva.
Each year, they join regional choirs for the East Midlands Four Choirs’ Festival Evensong, bringing exceptional choral music to the community and beyond

Any musical ability is welcomed at Derby Cathedral, with two choirs for total beginners up to an advanced standard.
Derby Cathedral Junior Choir
Friday early evenings
For young singers aged 5-9, this choir is a great musical experience for youngsters! It is a non-auditioned choir for children aged 5 to 9 who want to have fun and learn more about music, but it also provides training for children who may want to go on to become choristers in the Cathedral Choir.
Under the direction of the Cathedral’s professional musical team sings regularly at performances in the Cathedral.

Evenings
For more advanced singers aged 6+, Derby Cathedral Choir is one of the only ensembles of its kind within the East Midlands. We sing a broad range of repertoire to the very highest standards from medieval plainsong to newly commissioned works and many different styles in between.
The Choir is made up of boy and girl choristers aged 6-18 who sing alongside adults. All our Choristers receive one-to-one singing and music theory lessons and are paid a termly scholarship for their work at the Cathedral.
